Amy told me to write what I did today: (She's very bossy, and you gotta do what Amy says.)
Today I slept in and was woken up by my grandparents who came barging in my room. They complained I slept too much, but it was only 11 on a Saturday morning. Having lived with them for more than half my life, they should know by now that I refuse to get up earlier than 12 on a Saturday unless it's absolutely necessary.
After having a very Filipino lunch with my mom and the grandparents (Everyone else was at work, even little baby Aaron.) I went to the Promenade early and bought the necessary amount of toilet paper for tomorrow's mummy making session.
Then I went to work, blah blah blah, nothing exciting there except that we have a new girl in our department and I got to boss her around a bit. She's complaining that I work too fast, my question to her is: Why aren't you working fast enough?
People are always impressed by how fast I am on the register, but it's really nothing to be impressed about when you realize that I've been entering the same number with the same password on the register for the past 2 and a half years. I'd be worried if I wasn't fast.
This new guy today asked me for help on the register, he was very impressed by how fast I could give out change. He called it, "Good Math Skills."
This, my dear readers, is one of those very rare occasions where I have managed to impress someone with my 'math skills.' I'm an English student, I don't do math.
After work I came home, made instant noodles and watched one episode of One Piece and four episodes of The Big Bang Theory ONLY because I was doing my nails. I painted them black, then tried to put an orange stripe (to represent pumpkins) but then that failed. So I redid them, and tried to paint little ghosts, but that failed once again when I realized I have no motor skills with my left hand. Eventually I just stuck with black nail polish, whatever.
I fail with nail art.
Let's see ... then my sister wanted to complain to me for a bit, so she did and now I'm typing this blog.
Then I went on MSN and talked to Amy.

Racist Slurs and Novels
One time a friend of mine was complaining that a guy said "You're really beautiful for a black woman."
She was upset. Why couldn't she just be beautiful? Why did he have to point out that she was black?
It was like today when Mona texted me saying: "G6 is playing, when will they stop!" I guess I was just being extra sensitive, but she always cracks a joke about my Asian-ness. Whenever I do something, she always jokingly says, "That's such a typical asian thing to say."
First of all, I'm the least Asian Asian person I know, and I don't even know why such a race related comment had to be made.
Second, What the hell does that mean? When a song by a black person is played, I never go, "Usher's playing again, when will they stop!" Is she implying that Asians can't sing?!? And whenever there's a lot of Asians around, why do people always say "WOAH lots of Asians here!" You never hear them say that about other races in the same joking manner.
Anyway, rant over.
You know that novel that I've always said I wanted to write? I finally got started on it. Today I sat down and wrote down everything I wanted to write about. I have a lot of material (I may have over done it). Needless to say, I'm excited to start writing.
Here is a list of what I think constitutes good literature:
1) Writing style
ex. J.K Rowling, Charles Dickens, Gabriel Garcia Marquez
2) Lingering message behind the plot.
ex. Margaret Atwood, Voltaire, Charlotte Bronte, Micheal Ondaatje
3) Character cannot be relatable.
This is a little bit hard to explain. Relatable characters like how 15 year old teenage girls are able to relate to Bella from Twilight, or rather, live out their fantasy of having a Vampire Boyfriend through Bella. Or like how women escape from their life by living through the life of a fictional harlequin romance character. I find that most novels aimed for teenagers are like this :/ (Most not all)
Usually, if a novel serves the purpose of an escape, it generally cannot be thought of as good literature since that means the character would be one sided and wouldn't have a 3D aspect to them. Such characters are boring characters without any depth to them. But this doesn't mean that all good characters have to be un-relatable, they just can't be so monotone.
ex. of characters who are hard to relate to: Holden Caulfield from Catcher in the Rye, Orlando from Orlando by Virginia Woolfe, and Mazvita from Without a Name.
MAN, making this list just reminded me of how awesome Yvonne Vera is. If only I could write as elegantly as her.
Ok, anyway, my professor said that though we may know the rules and what goes into a particular genre/book doesn't mean writing it is easy. If that was the case, everyone would be writing. Though I mentioned that harlequin novels wouldn't necessarily be good literature (more of a beach read) you have to admit that the person writing the book has talent.
So we'll see what happens.
Noddle
New blog layout! I like this one because the background reminds me of my beloved glaciers/polar ice caps.
So the other day, Tabitha asked me the link for my blog.
I sent her this link: www.blogger.com/noodlebowl
Then she goes: Your name is Jamie?
So upon closer inspection, I've just realized, that for the past year since I've had this blog, I had spelled noodle noddle. Maybe I shouldn't point this out, because you guys might have just assumed that I did that on purpose, but the truth has to come out sometime: I misspelled noodle.
Naturally, I laughed my butt off, I was like, seriously, how STUPID can someone be?!? I should just wear a sign on my forehead with the word "STUPID." I fail with life.
I told Nat this and she goes: What did you say your major was again!?
I am a disgrace to all English students at U of T :'(
Anyway moving on.
This week is my week of hell:
Sunday: Work all day
Monday (today): Midterm
Tuesday: Work all day
Wednesday: Midterm
Thursday: Write Essay
Friday: Work all day
Saturday: Work all day
Although in theory this week sucks, it's actually pretty good because then I'll be too busy/tired to be moody. Yay.
And next time you guys see me failing in life, pls help an invalid out and point out how much I am sucking. K thanks.
The Reason for God
So I was checking facebook today, when I saw something very unpleasant. (See this is why I hate facebook, it always gives me bad news. One more reason to deactivate-click!) So to try and get rid of this unpleasant thing that I saw from my head, I picked up my copy of The Reason For God and continued reading where I had left off.
(This book, as indicated by the title, is about the Reasons for God. It touches somewhat on the major religions but is mostly focused on Christianity.)
This is what I read:
'There may be no greater inner agony than the loss of a relationship that we desperately want. If a mild acquaintance turns on you, condemns and criticizes you, and says she never wants to see you again, it is painful. If someone you're dating does the same thing to you, it is qualitatively more painful. But if your spouse does this to you, or if one of your parents does this to you when you're still a child, the psychological damage is infinitely worse.
We cannot fathom, however, what it would be like to lose not just spousal love or parental love that has lasted several years, but the infinite love of the Father that Jesus had from all eternity. Jesus' sufferings would have been ETERNALLY UNBEARABLE.'
It's a point to think about next time we're suffering so much. Our suffering is temporary, imagine suffering for eternity for/because of someone you love.
Suicide Alertness
I mentioned a couple of weeks ago that I was attending a suicide alertness workshop and I am proud to announce that I am officially a certified (literally, I have a certificate) suicide detector. Basically, all we did in the workshop was learn to detect the signs someone would give if they were thinking of committing suicide.
I have to admit, I was somewhat disappointed that we didn't cover things like, 'How to Stop Someone From Committing Suicide.' Instead, what they told us to do was call someone and not leave that person alone, and basically just to try and be alert of those around us who might be thinking of committing suicide.
But during the workshop, I felt like I was exhibiting more than one of the symptoms they mentioned.
Here's a list:
Care-less, Withdrawing, Moody, Alcohol/Drug Abuse, Alone, Burden, No Purpose, Escape, Desperate, Numb, Hopeless, Ashamed, Abuse, Rejection, Losses, Suicide Experience (If they have experienced someone close to them committing suicide.)
This past week alone I've
Cared less about people
Withdrew from people (I.e. try and get rid of my virtual social life)
Was extremely moody
Felt Alone
Felt like a burden (but more of a pest really)
Felt there was no purpose/escape to my moodiness
Ashamed that I did something stupid
Lost Hope at the people who I thought was close to me
See, this past week alone I've experienced more than half these symptoms. If I was someone else, I would definitely go up to me and say, "Dear Ann, you've exhibited more than half the symptoms of someone who is about to commit suicide, and my spider senses are tingling. This is serious and important. Are you planning on committing suicide?"
To which I'd answer: "Um, no. That's very presumptious of you to ask."
LESSON TO LEARN HERE PEOPLE: IT NEVER HURTS TO ASK.
That was one of the things I learned from this workshop, it's that most of the time people want to be asked if they're having suicidal thoughts, because they just want to talk about it. So if you have a friend who has been withdrawing and unwilling to talk and spending more time alone recently, talk to them and ask them if they're having any deep dark thoughts.
Also helps to try and get rid of all the sharp objects around them.
Constant Vigilance!
Yesterday, I bought a cover for my keyboard. I'm very excited to start abusing it, especially when I'm in class and typing as fast as my professor can spew words out of his mouth. The cover was a little bit expensive, but according to the manufacturer you can wash it when it gets dirty. In my head this translates to the cover lasting forever. (Or else I'll be seriously pissed)
Speaking of things lasting forever, I need new jeans. The last time I bought jeans was when I was in gr11, when my mom, sister and I went on a shopping spree in Buffalo. Sadly, my jeans have now gotten so worn out the zipper won't even stay up. My friends are always telling me that my fly is down. Uh, yeah, time to get new pants.
Let's see, what else can I incessantly type about.... Oh yeah, the event. I've been having a lot of problems with this event, grr. The other day Mona was like "Just cancel it and give up! Jeez."
CANCEL AND GIVE UP!?!? Dude, that's the last thing you ever want to do. Here's the lesson kids: Never give up and cancel something just because it gives you problems. If that was the case, I would have quit working at Sears long ago. As my fictional, and sadly deceased, friend Mad Eye Moody would say: CONSTANT VIGILANCE!
Speaking of work, my department is switching names. From now on it won't be called Catalogue anymore, instead, it's being renamed to: "Online Shopping." (Something people can do at home, but they insist on coming to Sears to do it anyway) I'm very excited to start telling people that I work at Online Shopping, they'll be like, Huh? You work in the Internet?
Also, life has been oddly pleasant without twitter. I don't miss it at all, even though within the first 24 hours I suffered through Twitter withdrawal.
Deliriant_o Tweets from Korea Town: OMG I JUST BOUGHT A KEYBOARD COVER! My laptop is all blinged up!
or
Deliriant_o Tweets from the Cats Hospital: I just lost my water bottle T.T
I did loose my water bottle, though. I'm very upset. I don't like not having water accessible to me at all times. And without that water bottle, how do I know if I'm drinking 8 glasses of water a day or not!?!?
Ok, enough babbling. Must get back to reading and studying for my midterm(s) next week. I shall blog more later because I will soon be very bored with studying.
Good bye Virtual Social Life
Ok so to recap:
1) I deleted twitter/fb because I want to concentrate on school.
2) I deleted the said above because I have not benefited from it.
3) Boys will always suck.
Dreams and Hormonal Imbalance
I've had to delete some of my previous posts because I just realized I was going through some serious hormonal imbalance moments, which made me write crazy things.
Fact: being hormonally imbalanced (delicate way of saying pms-ing) is like being clinically depressed. You're constantly moody and You don't know why.
And this is reason #10034 of why it sucks to be a girl.
Anyway, I may have shared this before, but I have seriously vivid dreams. NO not those kinds of dreams, I'm not that much of a pervert. But other vivid dreams like, dreaming about deceased hamsters or getting into car accidents.
And I always dream about my friends too. I've dreamt of Mona being pregnant, Matt and Manley getting married, Leo with yellow underwear (he wasn't wearing it, thank God). But I've had cool dreams lately about WongFu Productions.
WongFu Dream #1:
I was visiting my brother, Matt, at his new apartment where his roommate was David Choi. While hanging out there, WongFu walked in, and they were like: "Cool shirt!" Then I looked down and I was wearing a Nice Guy shirt. I said something cheesy like "Thanks, I got it from your website."
Then we hung out a bit, playing Wii, when suddenly I developed a big crush on Wes. Then we decided to go fishing on this huge boat.
WongFu Dream #2:
I don't remember this too much, but it took place at work. I was in the back office, telling a joke to my coworkers and they were all laughing. I was feeling good about it when all the sudden WongFu walked in. I said, "Holy Crap, what are you guys doing here?!"
Then something happened, then I suddenly had this huge crush on Phil.
So that was it so far, my two WongFu dreams. I don't think I'll be dreaming about Ted, it'd just be wrong since he's engaged.
Purge
To Purge:
Thanksgiving '10
Thanksgiving sucked.
On Spirituality
Inspired by this weeks Glee episode, I decided to dedicate a post on spirituality.
Polar Ice Caps
Things we can do to help save the polar ice caps/glaciers/ice sheets in the Antarctic:
1) Change light bulbs
Incandescent light bulbs waste a lot of energy while producing more heat than light. Compact fluorescent light bulbs use less energy and produce the same amount of light.
2) Unplug electronic devices when they are not being used
Such as cell phone chargers, hair straightners, toaster and even your TV when it’s not being used. These unused electronic devices uses up to 10% of your electricity.
3) Buy a Hybrid Car
Hybrid cars uses both electricity and gas and produce less air pollution
4) Buy appliances that use up less energy
There are existing technology today that uses up less energy, examples would be energy efficient washers and dryers as well as refrigerators.
5) Reduce your carbon footprint
-Reuse and recycle
-Use Reusable water bottles rather than plastic ones
-Turn of f the lights in a room when you’re not in there.
-Take public transportation, walk or use a bike instead
-Increase your plant consumption (more energy is being used to produce meat than plants)
-Buy local products/foods that are more in season.
It's already been a month since school started but it wasn't until today that I felt myself crash. I was at Cecil today, setting up the tables and decorating the basement for the Thanksgiving Dinner this Friday (Which I sadly can't go too) when all the sudden I was like, "Dude, I'm exhausted."
