I miss my water bottle :'(

I was taking the 60 bus home yesterday around 1 in the morning when I realized that this guy to my right was sketching me. His sketch couldn't have been any good, since I had blood shot eyes and could barely sit up straight. What a creeper, huh? He got off at the same stop as me. I was thinking of ways to karate chop him if he came close to me but luckily he sped off on his bike. (I envied his bike.)

So I woke up this morning and my eyes are still bloodshot! This is what I get for wearing my contacts for almost 16 hours straight. I'm surprised my eyes haven't shriveled up and popped out of my socket and died. I'm wearing my glasses from now on.

Ok, that's all I have to say. I was going to write something about how I'm in this blissful post breakup phase where I strongly dislike the thought of all relationships because they are suffocating and a waste of time BUT I've lost the cap to this stupid tin can water bottle I'm using and now I have to turn my room upside down to look for it. I miss my water bottle.

Suffering in Love

So I believe things happen for a reason because everything has been predestinated by God. I understand that this is hard for some people to accept and understand, since this means that God has control of your life and makes it seem like you have no say. Also, if God has predestinated everything, why didn't he just plan for everything to be glorious, why didn't he get rid of suffering and everything unjust?

I don't know the answers to these questions, but all I can share to you guys is a point that has been mulling around in my head these past few weeks. This is good so listen up. (I got this from the book I'm reading, A Reason For God, I've quoted this book in previous posts)

So let's say you can plan your life and everything that will happen. You'd be a fool to plan for bad things to happen to you. If I could plan my life out, I'd definitely plan it so it'd be super simple: Love at First sight, Fantastic Friends, Awesome Parents, Siblings that I like all the time and not just sometimes & etc.

Then think about it if you were God. Obviously, if you're God you wouldn't plan a hard life for yourself. You'd let those puny little humans suffer, but you're God, why should you suffer? You're on top of things. You're the creator, you have every right for every good thing to happen to you. And if it wasn't for you, these puny humans and their problems wouldn't even exist.

But that's not the way God has done things. Believe it or not, he planned a hard life for himself, and, to take it even further, he sacrificed himself for the puny humans he's created. He cares for us.

So God became human. Jesus did not have an easy life. He had imperfections.
1) He was Ugly.
2) He had to suffer through puberty, like you and I.
3) His parents didn't understand him.
4) People made fun of him for his teachings.
5) He suffered through temptations like you and I have.
6) He was poor.
7) He sacrificed himself and died on the cross. Not only did he suffer a painful death, but he also suffered from rejection from God.

"In his death, God suffers in LOVE, identifying with the abandoned and godforsaken. Why did he do it? The Bible says Jesus came on a rescue mission for creation. He had to pay for our sins so that someday he can end evil and suffering WITHOUT ending us. He has taken misery and suffering so seriously that he was willing to take it on himself. "

How many of us can say we're will to sacrifice ourselves for our friends? Families? Neighbours? Not many. But Jesus has paid the ultimate sacrifice for us all, even those who nailed him on the cross.

Broken Dreams

Literally. My dreams are broken.

I fell asleep in the train on the way to school today, and I ended up having short bizarre dreams that were not related to one another. One dream was about someone asking me what mademoiselle meant. Then the other was about these two girls having an odd conversation about food. Then last night I kept having short random dreams about totally fictional people whom I've never met before. And the other day I had this seriously bizarre dream about my friend.

Anyway, it's official. My dreams are broken. Too bad, since I usually enjoy dreaming, it's like a movie playing out in your head while you're asleep.

I think my broken dreams also have something to do with the fact that I've been hoping to dream about Ted Fu, just to complete my WongFu Productions dreams.

Novel Progress

I've decided to record how my novel is progressing here, just so I'll remember what happened when and feel guilty when I haven't been working on it in a while.

I was diligently reading A Midsummers Night's Dream by my good friend, William Shakespeare (henceforth to be referred to as Shakky.) when a thought occurred to me: Why not just make my novel a comedy?

Writing a comedy sounds a lot more interesting than writing something serious and might come off as boring. (I do want people to read it)

Also, I'm currently reading Silas Marner by George Eliot for my other class, and was inspired by this novel as well. Silas Marner actually reminds me a lot of this short story I wrote in Gr.12 about an old man who was found dead by a mail man, but in the case of Silas Marner, he finds a little girl beside a dead woman's body. Anyway, Silas Marner has a fairy tale like quality to it that I also kind of had in my short story. If George Eliot had been alive today, we'd be best friends. Just like how Shakky and I would have tea every day, and how if Harry was real, I would have advised him not to marry Ginny.

Halloween and Debby Downers

I was just washing the dishes downstairs (I've come to realize that one of the few moments when I feel most helpful is when I'm washing someone else's dishes :/) when my mom starts to complaint that I'm being too loud.

Mannnnn....

Just when I'm trying to be helpful, they go psycho on me.

I realize I haven't posted about my parents in a while. It's not because they stopped being annoying, it's just that, well, posting about psycho parents is so high school, something I'm suppose to grow out of by now. Plus I feel very guilty afterwards, because although they do drive me up the wall most of the time, they're beneficial to me.

Just like how, as I'm typing this, my mom is making adobo downstairs for me to devour tomorrow.

Anyway, here's an example of their craziness: Usually my mom delivers 'chicharon' (fried pork grind, another reason to have a heart attack) to Filipino stores, along with baked Filipino goods like Bibingka, Casava Cake and Puto. So after Church yesterday, we were suppose to go to a store in Midland and Eglington to deliver her stuff, but my dad forgot the address and receipt book at home. No surprise, they had a big yelling match in the car. Oiiiii ... it was not pretty.

But I'm still lucky to have my parents around, especially since I have a lot of friends whose parents are out of the province/country and they have to fend for themselves.

Ok, so moving on.

Here are some of the highlights from yesterday's very successful Halloween party:
(There were only about 7 of us there, as I had predicted. I didn't expect a lot of people to show up)
-Toilet paper fight. (I opened my bag today to take out my books and there was a lot of toilet paper dust. Grr Matt Gip. There was also a lot of dust in Amy Tang's hair.)
-Mummy making session
-Things in a box (I like how Matt and Manley kept saying the same things/guessing each others correctly. Water, Water?)
-Candy overload

And as predicted, Mona didn't show up. She told - wait let me check my phone, checking checking - Ok, I was right. She didn't even say SORRY for not attending. Psh, whatever. She's a debby downer, she was the one who told me to cancel the party because it was a lot of hassle. If I had cancelled the party, Leo might be suffering from mold infection at this very moment. I SAVED A LIFE BY HAVING THIS PARTY.

She told me 'not to be mad' and that she was stressed out from a test she had. Wellll this is a first, since when did Mona start caring about school? Jks.

Truth be told, I'm not the least bit mad at her. I'm just ignoring her texts because:
1) I'm too busy keeping up friendships with other people who DO NOT constantly bail on me
2) I'm not in the mood to entertain her at the moment. Being friends with Mona requires a surprisingly large amount of "LOL I can't believe she did that! Like OMG! Sluttttt" (Simple language for simple minds)

Yeah, just like how complaining about my parents is so high school, so is talking like an idiot. Time to grow up and move on!

To Amy

Amy told me to write what I did today: (She's very bossy, and you gotta do what Amy says.)

Today I slept in and was woken up by my grandparents who came barging in my room. They complained I slept too much, but it was only 11 on a Saturday morning. Having lived with them for more than half my life, they should know by now that I refuse to get up earlier than 12 on a Saturday unless it's absolutely necessary.

After having a very Filipino lunch with my mom and the grandparents (Everyone else was at work, even little baby Aaron.) I went to the Promenade early and bought the necessary amount of toilet paper for tomorrow's mummy making session.

Then I went to work, blah blah blah, nothing exciting there except that we have a new girl in our department and I got to boss her around a bit. She's complaining that I work too fast, my question to her is: Why aren't you working fast enough?

People are always impressed by how fast I am on the register, but it's really nothing to be impressed about when you realize that I've been entering the same number with the same password on the register for the past 2 and a half years. I'd be worried if I wasn't fast.

This new guy today asked me for help on the register, he was very impressed by how fast I could give out change. He called it, "Good Math Skills."

This, my dear readers, is one of those very rare occasions where I have managed to impress someone with my 'math skills.' I'm an English student, I don't do math.

After work I came home, made instant noodles and watched one episode of One Piece and four episodes of The Big Bang Theory ONLY because I was doing my nails. I painted them black, then tried to put an orange stripe (to represent pumpkins) but then that failed. So I redid them, and tried to paint little ghosts, but that failed once again when I realized I have no motor skills with my left hand. Eventually I just stuck with black nail polish, whatever.

I fail with nail art.

Let's see ... then my sister wanted to complain to me for a bit, so she did and now I'm typing this blog.

Then I went on MSN and talked to Amy.

Racist Slurs and Novels

One time a friend of mine was complaining that a guy said "You're really beautiful for a black woman."

She was upset. Why couldn't she just be beautiful? Why did he have to point out that she was black?

It was like today when Mona texted me saying: "G6 is playing, when will they stop!" I guess I was just being extra sensitive, but she always cracks a joke about my Asian-ness. Whenever I do something, she always jokingly says, "That's such a typical asian thing to say."

First of all, I'm the least Asian Asian person I know, and I don't even know why such a race related comment had to be made.

Second, What the hell does that mean? When a song by a black person is played, I never go, "Usher's playing again, when will they stop!" Is she implying that Asians can't sing?!? And whenever there's a lot of Asians around, why do people always say "WOAH lots of Asians here!" You never hear them say that about other races in the same joking manner.

Anyway, rant over.

You know that novel that I've always said I wanted to write? I finally got started on it. Today I sat down and wrote down everything I wanted to write about. I have a lot of material (I may have over done it). Needless to say, I'm excited to start writing.

Here is a list of what I think constitutes good literature:

1) Writing style
ex. J.K Rowling, Charles Dickens, Gabriel Garcia Marquez

2) Lingering message behind the plot.
ex. Margaret Atwood, Voltaire, Charlotte Bronte, Micheal Ondaatje

3) Character cannot be relatable.
This is a little bit hard to explain. Relatable characters like how 15 year old teenage girls are able to relate to Bella from Twilight, or rather, live out their fantasy of having a Vampire Boyfriend through Bella. Or like how women escape from their life by living through the life of a fictional harlequin romance character. I find that most novels aimed for teenagers are like this :/ (Most not all)

Usually, if a novel serves the purpose of an escape, it generally cannot be thought of as good literature since that means the character would be one sided and wouldn't have a 3D aspect to them. Such characters are boring characters without any depth to them. But this doesn't mean that all good characters have to be un-relatable, they just can't be so monotone.

ex. of characters who are hard to relate to: Holden Caulfield from Catcher in the Rye, Orlando from Orlando by Virginia Woolfe, and Mazvita from Without a Name.

MAN, making this list just reminded me of how awesome Yvonne Vera is. If only I could write as elegantly as her.

Ok, anyway, my professor said that though we may know the rules and what goes into a particular genre/book doesn't mean writing it is easy. If that was the case, everyone would be writing. Though I mentioned that harlequin novels wouldn't necessarily be good literature (more of a beach read) you have to admit that the person writing the book has talent.

So we'll see what happens.
